How To Catch A Sturgeon In Stardew Valley?

The easiest way to obtain a Sturgeon is to purchase one from Krobus’ shop on Wednesdays for 200g. Krobus is the shadow person who lives in the sewers, and his shop is only open on Wednesdays.

Alternatively, you can try to find a Sturgeon being sold by the Traveling Cart. The Traveling Cart is a random event that appears on Fridays and Sundays in different locations around the Valley.

If you’re lucky, the cart may have a Sturgeon for sale, but the price can range from 600g to 1,000g. However, If you prefer to catch a Sturgeon yourself, you’ll need to meet a few requirements:

  • Reach fishing level 6 to unlock the ability to use advanced fishing rods, which are necessary for catching Sturgeons.
  • Fish in the Mountain Lake during the summer or winter seasons. Sturgeons only spawn during these times, with rainy summer days being the best time to catch them.
  • Use an advanced fishing rod, such as the Fiberglass or Iridium Rod. These rods have a higher fishing power, making it easier to reel in the Sturgeon.
  • Equip your rod with a Trap Bobber tackle. The Trap Bobber will make it easier to keep the Sturgeon on your line, reducing the chances of it escaping.
  • Consider eating a fishing-boosting meal, like Dish O’ The Sea, to temporarily increase your fishing level and skill. This can give you an extra edge when trying to catch a Sturgeon.
  • Cast your line as far out into the lake as possible. Sturgeons are more likely to be caught the further you are from the shore, so aim for the middle of the lake.

If you’re still having trouble catching a Sturgeon, you can try using Magic Bait. Magic Bait allows you to catch Sturgeons year-round, but it’s quite expensive to make or purchase from the Dwarf in the Mines.

Does It Have To Be Raining To Catch A Sturgeon In Stardew Valley?

No, it does not have to be raining to catch a Sturgeon in Stardew Valley. However, Sturgeons are more likely to be caught during rainy summer days.

However, to catch a Sturgeon, you need to fish in the Mountain Lake during the summer or winter seasons between 6 AM and 7 PM.

Rainy summer days are the best time to catch them, as they make up 11-16% of all items caught on those days. If you’re playing during the winter, you’ll need to use a Rain Totem to make it rain, as rainy winter days are not possible otherwise.

But even without rain, you can still catch Sturgeons in the winter at the Mountain Lake. The further you cast your line out into the lake, the better your chances of hooking a Sturgeon.

This is because Sturgeons are more likely to spawn farther from shore. To cast your line as far as possible, press and hold the “Use Tool” button until the on-screen bar is filled up.

And to increase your chances even more, make sure you have a fishing level of at least 6 to unlock advanced fishing rods.

The Fiberglass or Iridium Rod are best, and equip them with a Trap Bobber tackle to make it easier to reel in the Sturgeon.
